In June of 1988 my family moved off to southern California (I stayed in Duncanville) to a town named Newbury Park in Ventura County. It was there that mom decided to have some major work done on the car
as part of a larger restoration. The body was liberated of its removable body panels, that were then made somewhat ready for painting. The bumpers were removed, as was all body trim, adornments and the interior was stripped.
From what I have been able to gather from mom, the intent was to have the body and interior restored, which is consistent with what parts were removed, etc.
Then, as things often do, life's situations changed and my family came home to Texas!! (With the car in pieces in the back of a Mayflower moving truck.)
